I've only played Test Drive. I'm thinking of getting another good racer. I'm not much into the whole crash 'em up thing; I just want a good, solid racer.
Oh, and I like racing games to be slightly on the arcade side (ie - not as involved as the GT games). So, what are your top 3 racing games?

I liked Burnout 3 a ton. Gran Turismo is great, but you did say you like them arcadey, so that kind of rules that out.
I also really dug Midnight Club 3. Tons to do and some really sweet racing. |

Invest your money in an Xbox instead, so you can play Halo with us!

With GT you can mostly get away with buying the best upgrade for each area and not worry about the fine tuning. On the XBox, MC3: Dub Ed looks horrible so I imagine it'll be the same on PS2. Plus you only have manual gears! AAArgh! If you don't mind a classic, you can't go far wrong with NFS: Hot Pursuit. Looks nice, plays nice. What more do you need? Other than those I'd go with NFS: Underground 2 The latest ridge race game is short but fun with it's storymode single player game. It's also pretty darn cheap now.

I personally don't care for the Underground games but anything else from the Need for Speed series is usually really good; I especially liked Hot Pursuit 2 and that came out awhile ago so it should be cheap if you can find it. I love Burnout 3 too but you said you didn't care for the crash 'em up style so that's probably not the way to go.

im hijacking this thread for a sec.... GAB!!!
ages ago.. when you brought GT4 you said about the graphics and how its was all shiney and flickery and that you were a lil disapointed! I have just brought it for the UK, and youre right... dont ask me, I dunno why, but the Japanese version is better imo.... weird. tho if Svosen wants to buy GT4 it will be different from the PAL version if he buys US, you know... I wouldnt be surprised f it was the old 50/60 hertz problem again. still... Burnout3 is the greatest arcade racing game on earth and would fight naked in a vat of human hair, fat and toe nail clippings to defend it... tho Burnout 4 is out soon... so I may take that back. imo GT4 is the best reality car game, but some games you just want to be fun..eh?

at Ryan and Gabe."come to the dark side..." :P I considered it farely seriously, but I don't think I can get an affordable broadband connection here, so it's really a moot point. Sorry, guys. I'd love to play online with you - honest... I've been a fan of the NFS series (started on PC, then on PSX). Haven't owned one for the PS2, though. I might try Hot Pursuit 2. Thanks for the tips.

Uh, Midnight Club 3 has automatic shifting. Not sure if you meant it only has automatic and not manual, which may be true - I don't feel like digging it out to check.

I only have manual. I cannot find anything in the instructions to tell me how to change to automatic
