It is possible that if the average game buyer resists the $60 price tag and sales decline, then the MSRP could come down... but we're very much overdue for a price jump.

In retail circles, I keep hearing March for a PS3 release... but I think that's more of a gut feeling than anything else.

The launch date could be influenced by just how much the XBOX360 takes off later this year and just after the holiday season ends... but that's just my own theory.

True Pocky. Maybe that was the ploy? Tell everyone the price could go up to $70 then when it only goes to $60 people will be be relieved rather than disgruntled about the price increase.

I think parents are tired of dishing out loads of money on systems and games. They would lose a lot of customers if they out-price the market too much. One trend isnt likely to change, that being the system or games start out at a higher cost then within a reasonable amount of time drop considerably in price. Why not just rent a game, most ps2 games are very rentable anyway (as far as length), i bet ps3 will be also...

seriously tho, $70 is only like £45 or so isnt it? I think the price of PS3 games will go up, but give it a year and the shops will be putting their own prices on them like what they are doing now over here. I havent brought a new game for over £30 in over a year! the last game I brought that was £35 was Driv3r (was that over a year ago? anyway.. that was the last one).

Game (eb) and Gamestation (blockbuster) are fighting at the moment on prices (haha).. so its all good for us Brits. HMV and Virgin music stores however have started buying in 2nd hand games as they cant reduce their prices as much as Game or Gamestation so now they are offering cheap 2nds.. which is ok, but I know that if I was going to buy a 2nd hand game, I doubt it would be HMV.

do you guys get HMV in the states? I dont know what would be the equivalent store.


I did hear a rumour that the PS3 would be cheap compared to the PS1 or PS2, not sure what that means.. but some people reckon it could be on sale for around the £200 mark. I seriously doubt it and have my money on it being £299 like all the others. But the cheaper they sell the console for then the more expensive the games will be ….imo. I guess they have to make their money somehow and its usually always been on software rather than hardware.
