I'd go more by what J Allard-- despite his oddly trendy wardrobe choices-- tends to think about the XBOX360 price than corporate folks at EB and GameStop think.
Just relaying information. Of course it isn't the final price at all until Microsoft officially announces it. Personally I think it would be suicide if Microsoft tried to go any higher than $399. $500 is a lot of money, enough to make me second guess pulling away my pre-order on the system, although I highly doubt it will end up being that much.

I remember when ps2 came out, some stores were selling it at $400 just the system and controllers. Remember, some stores just wanna rip you off. But i hope this pricetag dont mean that xbox360 would cost us $400.
I would really hate to buy games for $70. No way im going to waste my money on that, unless its a Halo or MGS type. Im probally going to play only the best games, killer app, not the average ones. So if they wanna put $60 on games, so be it. i dont care

If you get that large of a price for games all that does is help Blockbuster and other rental places do a lot more business. It wont help video game sales, that is for sure. People are smarter than you think, they will rent before buying, much more than ever before if the video game prices go out the wazoo...

Even renters won't necessarily be able to get away from rising costs. Since Blockbuster, GameFly, and others will have to pay more per game, it's common sense that they will pass on these higher costs to the consumer.

Also, if more people decide to rent, that would force rental companies to buy more copies of games to rent, meaning more sales-- although probably coming nowhere near the shortfall that could happen if game prices spike too much.

Hmmm, I think I should shop around more. Calgary is a city LOL. I should also check out Bestbuy and Futureshop more often, it's just that they don't carry the selection of games like EB does.

That's only £290 !! We paid £299 for the PS2.

The british tax system sucks

If it retails at £399 here that will be about $728 USD

Pete, what a lot of these rental stores might do is simply reduce their profit margin and still charge the same for game hire. They won't care if it takes 4 extra rentals of a game to recover it's cost if they are getting 10-20% more people renting from them.

My dude works at EB too and he says that's just dummy info they put in the computer due to them already accepting preoreders.

They make a dummy price that's too high for the system just to make sure that when the real price is revealed it isn't higher than what they told everybody.

When I preordered my PSP (from a store doing preorders 2 weeks before EB and GameStop) they had it listed at $500 but I knew it wouldn't be that much.

They do the same w/ release dates for games too. GTA psp and MidNight Club 3 have had dates listed on EB's site right after RockStar said they would publish it back in March. The dates from store to store, company to company, differ but are never right until the official date is released.
