Although the warning signs for software price hikes have been sounding for months now, this Chris Morris piece again calls attention to the possibility of next-gen consoles not only breaking the $300 ceiling, but far surpassing it. If, indeed, $400 is the magic number for consoles next generation, I'll be getting one. Only one. Between that and $60 a pop for games, I just cannot afford any more. I'd like to not have bills to pay, but that's life, you know? Any other reaction? (Just FYI, this might be soruce material for the next Perspective column.)

Well, I was expecting it. With every next gen console pushing the specs of a high roller computer the price of new hardware would jump. With the amount of time I spend playing games I find the investment is good enough to pay a little more. I've put a ton of time into Final Fantasy XI (123 days now) and alot of money, but it's been worth it.
I'm the type of person who only gets the top rated games and some really bad ones lol. So with the cost of games is not bad. Plus with some games I can go get them used or from a bud (I don't rent games) months after release. I'm willing to pay big bucks for the PS3 cause i know that many more hours will be put towards gaming that will be amazing. **Sort of off topic LOL* I'm not sure if you Pete or somebody else on the team if they can ask SE (LOL, it's a long shot) If Final Fantasy XI will be on the PS3 and if we can transfer over the PS2 HDD to the PS3 and the last question will be........launch FFXII sooner than fall 2006! lol ![]() |

Price is no concern here, myself, especially since i will no doubt be able to trade in the ps2 console and several games. Albeit their value will be substantially less than what they should be, it will work itself out. For those of us able to find deals, we do, and i figure thats the way it will always be. I remember selling my DC back when Funco would still give good store credit (due to a manager friends info) and then jumping to the #3 spot on the list long after the list had closed, for the release of the ps2. Pays to be in the know, and to know peeps who will help along the way...

I was probably going to skip out on the next generation anyway, but that price would pretty much seal the deal, especially since I'll be entering the "poor college student" phase of my life very soon.

I'm going to pass on the new consoles for a while. This generation by far has been better than any other IMO. And there are still hundreds of games I have yet to play in this generation. So i'll take my money and buy the games I want. And wait for the prices on the new ones to drop.

ps3 isnt coming out for a year so its a lot easier to decide at that time than now, which will likely change everyones minds. This system will top anything beyond the wildest imagination so that will loosen people's wallets without a doubt...

I do expect a slight rise in costs but I would have hoped it wouldn't be too great. Alright, I agree that some costs will have increased like staff wages and the likes but as technology develops some things will surely become cheaper to produce. Isn't this why they could sell the PS2 for the same RRP as the PS1?
I don't think games will all increase, only those from the high profile companies like EA, Square, Sony etc.. There will be plenty of borderline companies who know that people won't risk buying their games if they charge too much.

I'll buy the console regardless of price. It's even better now that my brothers and I all have part time jobs (even though we're all in school, myself being a "poor college student"), so that'll make paying for it a little less of a burden

I have to agree. There is so many titles now for the ps2 that I haven't even played so I am going to wait and see what the ps3 does in the real world.
