The problem that I have with this is that you'll have to pay more, and then on top of it, if you want the full content, you'll have to pay for microtransactions as well. Will we pay more at retail for less? It better not, or else I'll just keep playing current gen games.

Nice one Sunny, I never thought about the online fees. As more games become online orientated shouldn't they become cheaper at the point of purchase but just levy a subscription fee to play online? This will easily surpass the revenue generated from higher retail costs.

Microtransactions aren't online fees per se (online fees are justifiable to a certain degree, there are servers to maintain and all...). Microtransactions are paying actual money for let's say a new golfer in the next gen tiger woods, a nice unique hat for your character in a next GEN MMORPG. Sadly enough, every console manufacturer has more or less expressed their intentions of supporting such things (MS more concretely, Sony made allusions to it, and Nintendo announced its NES-N64 downloadable content). Hopefully they won't abuse it too much.

Well, I am going to have to pass on the next-gen for a while. I am going to be visiting somewhere for 2 years and will not be able to do any gaming. So when I get back, maybe the price will be in the $250-$300 range

I'm more than willing to pay $400 or more for a PS3 because of its awesome features.

I'm not ready to go next gen yet, by getting an Xbox 360, since there isn't much I want for it and there's still a lot of stuff I want coming for PS2, Xbox, GC, and GBA. Along with that, I still have to get both a DS and PSP.

it's all supply and demand...the companies don't make money off the consoles anyways, i personally would like to see the game price come down more then the console.

and as far as console price they have a limited range, once u get up around the thousand dollar range ur looking at laptops and PC's which the consoles don't have the capabilities totally of yet.

My mates and I were discussing whether or not Microsoft are releasing the 360 too early. We all think they are. They should wait until demand for the latest systems starts to cool first. I know lots of people (including those of you on this site) who simply won't be buying a 360 at launch because they have no need to. There's enough on current systems to keep them happy.

The world is glutted with video game systems, unless it comes with the logo ps3 im not buying it at any time. MS can and will do whatever they want, which is fine, i will be there for their next OS...

On the other hand, though, GameStop has already had to stop taking reservations on their first expected shipment of XBOX260 units and are pushing people to the second shipment.

There is SOME demand for it.
