Another "merger"... Bandai buys Namco

We have a news story going up on this shortly, but Bandai and Namco are "merging"... with things being made official in September and Bandai holding the majority stake in the new company.

Early indications are that current game release schedules will not be affected.

Personally, I don't have a good feeling about this takeover at all. If we've learned anything from the Sammy buyout of SEGA, it's that these situations only lead to bad, bad things. One needs to only glance at Sega's horrible track record since the takeover.

I hope I'm wrong, because Namco's always been a solid Sony ally... and with Nintendo holding stock in Bandai, it leaves the door open for changes.

oh dear..

As long as the PS2 still gets versions of the RR games I'll be happy. I could even live without Tekken. I can't see the merged company going Nintendo only as they'd lose a hell of a lot of sales; It just wouldn't make economic sense.

to be fair tho.... Bandai are kings in their own right, they know what to do and how to do it.

I am surprised that the two are merging, but theyre both great companies.

I dont like Bandais games much, but they brought us the Wonderswan... and those of you who had one, knows that at the time it was superb!

so, maybe some hardware coming our way?

as long as its not Ridge Racer: Turtle edition

I may be the only one that feels this way. But I thought segas quality went down hill way before they joined with Sammy.

I totally agree with you!!

I was in Gamestation the other day, and sum 18yr old behind the counter was blaming Sony for making Sega shit, I laughed at him.

The TMNT franchise has always been Konami's. Bandai's big claims to fame are the Digimon series, the Gundam series, and the .hack series (which was underrated, IMO).

I'm with you-- I need to see more Ridge Racer games. It's totally killing me that I don't have a PSP to play the latest RR game. Maybe we'll see one at E3 for the PS3! *keeps fingers crossed*

That's a debatable point. I'd argue further that Sega's quality tended to diminish after they went third-party. While there were some diamonds in the rough-- most notably Panzer Dragoon Orta-- there were some real turds, too.

The Sammy takeover of Sega just put a note of finality on things.

Hell yeah..Panzer Dragon Orta freakin rocked!

But Sega itself went down hill along time before they joined with Sammy. Hell Sammy does Guilty Gear (an excellent fighting game GGX in perticular) so I don't put the blame on them.
