Floating on "Cloud 9"

I haven't heard almost anyone talking about this game at all.I myself have been waiting for a excellent FPS for PS2 and I think with my purchase I came pretty close to the best one for us strictly PS2 only ppl. I have no Xbox so no Halo for me
![]() I've played Time Splitters since it's launch on PS2 and believe it to be the best 1st person shooter on the PS2. Red Faction 2 was pretty good (geo mod was great) but was missing something. Half Life was ok but hell with a port of a old ass PC game. KillZone whice I thought was going to be the shiznit was a disappointment to me. Maybe KillZone 2 will be the epic PS2 "HALO" whice I thought it was suppose to be. I'm not including WAR titles in my definition of shooters cause there are so many they seem to be the same and convulted, only 1 or 2 really shine like 1942 and certain Medal of Honors.(almost forgot Brothers in Arms) EA has been losing it's touch I think especially with Rouge Agent. I think MOH:Frontline and and James Bond: Everything or Nothing have been their best 1st person shooter titles in the last few years. Hopefully From Russia with Love is a decent title as I am looking forward to it. Anyway I just noticed I haven't said anything about Area 51 yet. I'm only about a hour or so in to it and so far so good. David Ducovney seems to talk throughout the whole damn thing it seems (His voice kinda erks me) and after readin a review on the game it sounds like the most solid shooter on the PS2 in awhile the story has some strange twist and everything from cyborgs to to aliens...after I get a lil bit more used to playing I might hop online an merc some fools. (I can't wait to kill some of those lilttle aliens that look like E.T.) Anyways I'm bout to get my game on and the boards are slow so I figured I post a....post, even though I really don't know if my bickering about EA and saying I got Area 51 qualifies as an actual post...oh well. |

I played the demo awhile ago and didn't like it. The controls were terrible, not fluid and smooth like Halo or other well-received FPS.

While I have not played Area 51 yet, I've heard pretty good things about it-- especially in terms of visuals. I also heard, like you said, that Duchovny's delivery is flat and uninspired.
My FPS diet is pretty full, with recent acquisitions of Doom 3 and Unreal Championship 2 for the XBox... but I'll likely check this game out at some point.

The game is actually pretty good...David's acting is very flat, story so far is what you expect but getting alot better with a twist that just happened that I won't spoil. The gameplay is fluid and no slowdown with alot a enemies on screen. So far (only about a 1/2 into it) the weapons are what you'd expect in a shooter and the game is gorgeous. The backrounds are what you expect Area 51 to be like and the place seems to be HUGE from some of the cutscenes. The game has a Half Life sorta feel and IS BETTER than Red Faction and the story is alot better thanTimeSplitters. Bout to take a break and play my free copy of Arcade Treasures 2 for pre-ordering Area 51. |

Your right Pete Cyberball ROCKS!!!!
It's a shame the original Narc is way funner and better game than the new remake is I played Arched Rivals for a second or two but Rampage is still tons of fun...I blew off the multitap and got some 3 player action goin yeaterday, great stuff. I remember Mortal Kombat 2 giving more time for Fatalities but oh well still plays great and I even remember some of the Fatalities and pits still. Anyone remeber Primal Rage? It was out around the same time MK3 it had dinosaurs and you could perform deathmoves? It aged horribly and I can't believe I use to put quarters into that horrid game. Final note...I just read GameSpot's Area 51 review. That guy has been playing too much Halo. (The Xbox and PS2 versions look almost identical, Go PS2!!) It doesn't have anything missing (that any other game of the overun fps genre) as far as goog weapons and level design. It might not be the online multiplayer king that Halo is but does a fps have to be ALL about online multiplayer to be a solid fps? NO. The single player is solid as a rock. For a non-war based fps on PS2 it's single player campaign has great gameplay and a good enough story to move you along and make you wanna see what happens next. The best Alien shooter I've played.( and yes I wanna check out Destroy All humans too.) (If you want online multiplayer go Halo or Unreal...best thing on PS2 that's close to a online multiplayer fps that's actual addicting and hella fun will be Socom 3..be prepared.) |

Yes... the new NARC sucks. Midway should have to pay people $20 just to play it. I tried it for 10 minutes... that's all I needed. Arch-Rivals is NBA Jam's grandfather. It's not exactly the tightest game on the planet, but it's good for an occasional game or three. (I wonder where Super High Impact Football is?) I was never a big Rampage guy... but I can see where it can be fun to play. MKII >>>>>> MK3, shorter fatality times or no. Toasty, indeed. And, as for Primal Rage, yuck. I hated the coin-op, and I've tried the MAT2 version just because it was there.
