If people expect to have a perfect PSP screen, well...their stupidity amuses me. 2-3 dead pixels is perfectly common. I have two launch units, one Japanese (which is the 1st generation of PSP hardware) and the other US. And both of them are fine.

This issue isn't as wide spread people make it out to be, either.
Personally i don't want any Dead-Pixels on any products i buy dealing with LCD's, especially on something i payed $250 for. And i can't imagine if i had 3 dead-pixels i would extremely be pissed. I don't care for 1 dead-pixel i can live but on an LCD so small 1 dead-pixel is visible, and for those getting more like 2 or 3 or even like my friends out of box 4 dead pixels is just ludacris.

The average 15-19in LCD manufacturer has a tolerence of 10 dead pixels until it is replaced. Yes a big difference in comparison to the 1-3 dead pixels on average for the PSP consumers. But then again it doesn't use a 15in LCD screan.

Also if i'm not mistaken, correct me if i'm wrong but both Nintendo DS and Sony PSP use anLCD screan manufactured by Sharp, and both companies had problems with dead pixels.

Personally i use Samsung, and i would think Sony and Nintendo should also, because to my knowledge Samsung LCD's come with a 0-Dead-Pixel Warrently for the first 6 months. Meaning if you got your LCD out of box with even 1 dead pixel samsung will replace the LCD for free.

The problem with many companies is that they hate to replace LCD's, it cost them a hell lot more money. Why, because you can not repair LCD's, you would need to throw down a new sheet, or get a brand new monitor or LCD device.

The amount of LCD's that come out today with dead pixels are minimul, but it has been shown that both the DS and PSP have come out with a reasonable amount of dead pixels for people to complain.

I am glad that Sony has taken the liberty to replace the PSP's with 1 dead-pixel, and eventually hope to fix the problem, but how could you possibly send back to someone a PSP with more dead-pixels then the original sent to Sony.

Yes you are right that larger companies have worse off customer service and tech support. But then again that is not necessarly true. Small companies also have back support and certain large companies have great support.

Maybe i did get off track on my original post, it's not my complaint really towards the dead pixels, for like i said i can live with 1 on my PSP (Though i'd rather not have any but i can deal with it). It's really my complaint towards Sony's Customer/Technical Support. The fact that they send back PSP's that are worse off, either seems that they do not test it, or they may not be packaging it correctly.

And last thing you are right PSP's sold far more then DS and is a bigger launch, but i was speaking in percentage wise, not in actual number.

EDIT:
"some people have brought back their PSP more than 5 times cause of dead pixels and just keep getting more of them."
Mentioned by Felix. Thank you

People get ones with more dead pixels because they just send a new one sitting in the warehouse most likely, I doubt they bother to open up every package and test the PSP until they get one that is perfect to send out.

How many people got a PSP that had more dead pixels than their original? I bet you that number is like 4 or 5 and this news article spun it and made it sound like it was hundreds. Sony has been quick with replacing PSPs, with the exception of a few. And there will always be exceptions.

I'm sure Nintendo's screwed up a good deal as well with DS returns, but you don't hear about them because they're the underdogs now; no one cares about Nintendo. It's Sony that'll face more and more scrutiny everyday because of their userbase.

Sure, but Arnold isn't talking out of his ass. I know a few people who have PSP's, and when they let me play it, I've never had any problems with screen disfunctions. It isn't this huge plague. It's a problem, nonetheless, but it's being blown way out of proportion.

I am my own source. I don't need some bullshit article telling me what I know firsthand.

Exactly. What people say on forums doesn't mean shit. And that's where Engadget pulled this article from, a couple of forum posts.

As far as I how I know first hand, that's a question I'm not even sure if I should answer or not; seeing as how it's so blatantly obvious.

As big a launch as the PsP has had, and as popular as it is, there is bound to be some problems along the way. But... there have been very few criticisms of it overall, and im sure if it wasnt a very good system in general that is all you would be hearing about, was problems. Most of the problems that the system had when being released in Japan seemed to have been eradicated to a good degree so there really isnt much to rag on apparently... if you have a system that is working fine with no problems there isnt any reason for concern. I remember a while back you all talking about the Ipod and some of its problems, and the fact is these things happen, and are resolved...

I'm surprised Sony don't have an agreement with major retailers so that you can talke your faulty machines there for an exchange and then see the replacement working BEFORE you walk away with it, thus producing a satisfied customer. Then all the faulty products collected are sent on to Sony in one batch.
