Default Metal Gear: Ac!d?

Has anyone tried this one out yet, or any editors working on a review?

I read the review at ign.com right now and it seems that the main gripe is that card-game aspect doesn't mix well with the "realism" of the Metal Gear series. They never really explain how the card game system works (or I didn't notice, I did sort of skim through it), just sounded like he had no clue what he was doing. Like, he was whining moreso because the guy sucked at the game, than the gameplay actually being bad.

Oh well, I'm a MG fanboy, and with that EB trade-in deal I'll be getting it for free anyway.

edit: The review at Gamespot praises it more, and explains the game in more detail.

Quote:
Metal Gear Acid represents a compelling departure for the long-running stealth action series. This game is not for the faint of heart--you will be doing some serious strategizing as the game progresses, and if turn-and grid-based card-battling doesn't sound like your thing, turn back now. But the game has a great storyline and presents complex, rewarding combat scenarios of impressive intensity, which is a feat considering the genre's inherently slow pacing. Even if the multiplayer isn't quite as entertaining, it'll take you a good two dozen hours to get through the story mode, with strong incentive to go back and replay prior missions to uncover more cards and try for a better rank. Acid is a solid package that may not be for everyone, but for the people it's for, the game's got it where it counts.
Sounds good enough for me. I'm in the card-style mood right about now after finishing Phantom Dust last night.

My bud at work pre-ordered Ac!d, so I'll wait until I play it /cough at work to see if it's a worthy purchase. It looks damn good though.

I just got home and put it in. The game looks amazing, the PSP is sooo sexy when you are holding it in your hand. I only watched the opening dialogue and stuff so far and did the 'movement tutorial', which was the entire first mission. The new characters seem interesting, especially these two dummies that hijack the plane, I wonder if they will show the person that is controlling them, or if they move on their own..

The cut-scenes are made with drawn pictures and in-game stuff, different from what the other Metal Gear titles are like. It seems cool so far, I'll play some more when I get home from work.

You actually play the game with a deck of cards. Before each mission you can enter the card shop and buy new cards to add to your deck. Then you randomly get cards from your deck to use in-game. Its like any typical card-game, such as Magic: The Gathering.

I played the game for about another hour or so. Its hard. It takes awhile to get used to the system and how to play the game, since the game tells you the basic aspects of the game, and leaves you to figure out the rest. I'm just now getting the hang of sneaking past guards easily without getting caught and sneaking up behind them then using the Socom card in the back of their head to kill them.

There's some good humour in this too, there's a really random "commercial" for the Card Shop once it opens, really funny.
