the PS3 is a Sony product.

the reason I say it like theres a point to this.. is because there is!

Sony dont just make things then say "er.. when shall we ship this?" they knew three years ago when the approx time to ship the PS3 would be. things have stirred up a lil with the Xbox360 and the production of the Cell, but all in all its all going to plan.

the new Playstation usually comes out every 4-5 years, making it 2005, but as development on the Cell and the fact that the Xbox are selling the 360 far earlier than was expected, Sony have obviously changed their minds.

the price should be the same as what the PS1 and PS2 first came out at, £299.
to wait another two years will cripple the Playstation name.

Sony have developed the GS Cube (I think thats what its called?) anyway, you could say its a Playstation 10. this piece of equipment is so fkg powerful that it would blow you away, Sony will stirp this cube to make the PS3/PS4 etc... so why wait an extra 3 years when you know you already have this console just waiting to make you money, and with the Cell in completion.. only a mad man would sit on the whole thing for a few extra years.

the PS2 and games will still be on sale for years to come! so if Sonygamer23 is worried that the games will be phased out... they will be, but by the time they do... he will probably have a PS3.


as for worries.. it will be backward compatible on the PS2 and PS1, Sony did say about a year ago that they were preparing a PS1 emu for the PS3... of course this could all change.

Sony are always making things smaller and better, if Sony think its the right time for a PS3, then its the right time! if you look at the end of the road for the PS1, it was at least 6months in to the life of the PS2 before they really started to wind down. the PS2 will and is still going from strength to strength.

I know I will get a PS3 in a heartbeat.


interestingly enough theres a rumor banging around that the UK PSP date has been put back to overlap the Xbox360. im not 100% sure i believe it, but lets face it.. the PSP is so powerful and unique that if Sony really do put it up against the Xbox2, then it might do very very well.. making way for a summer release of the PS3.
