For a moment, disregard the claim that EA software will be $70-- since that claim comes from Sega and hasn't been confirmed by EA. The real news here is that another notable publisher has confirmed that we'll be paying at least $10 more per game come next generation. While I don't see a mass revolt, I do see a lot of unhappy faces and some much emptier wallets come next year. Thoughts on this?

Since it's new gen hardware and software I'd expect to pay top dollar for spankin new games anyway. With a new product usually comes higher prices so ppl should've been expecting to pay more for next gen games anyway. Games for PS2 were slightly higher than PS1 games, same as GBA games and the price of PSP games. We expect to pay more for a new PSP game than a new GBA game, as well as the hardware. Even the new version of GBA that WILL come out will not be as much as a PSP, but I base that mostely on Nintendo policy and current trend. usually about every 2 yrs a new GB version is released around a hundred bucks or so for the hardware. The slightly higher prices shouldn't be a real shocker to most gamers. Eventually the prices will go down like usual and greatest hits will pop up, and buying used never hurt anyone.
![]() Oh yeah, I wouldn't doubt EA prices being $10 higher w/ their current trend of PSP game pricing. But I also wouldn't doubt Sony maybe making their 1st party games at the $50 mark either. |

I'm not upset, I haven't been into video games as much as I used to though lately. I expected this to happen. Anyone who didn't needs some help.

I don't see a reason for them to charge that much.
What, $10 inflation? Or are we suppoused to feel sorry for them for having spend $$$ on new dev_kits and hardware? Ain't my problem. ... |

Personally, ive all but given up on gaming. I used to love to play games. I still do but not as much as I used to. Ive taken up another hobby. And this is one of the reasons why. I was really excited about the new systems coming and the new handhelds. But i'm not paying $50 for a handheld game. And more than likely I won't be buying any of the next gen consoles.

thats fine if they wanna raise the price, now i'll just wait for the price to drop to 30 or wait for the greatest hit version. i'll never pay 60 bucks, for ANY game. sorry. and if its a new final fantasy or gta, i'll just rent it..blockbuster has that game thing for 15/month right? wouldn't take me a month to finish a game, so that works for me

We pay between $58 and $76 USD for ours anyway so this would bring your prices more in line with ours. Unfortunately, our prices will most likely increase as well to the $96 USD region

they can ask all they want, i almost always wait for a price drop anyway. the down side of always waiting for price drops though is i'm usually playing something a year old. picked up Onimusha 3 at EB for $15 so i'm hacking my way through that now. cool game - great price.

Video game software has had the most static pricing points I've ever seen in the history of this country's economy. And now people are bitching because the price is finally going up. |

The trend I seem to remember is that new system games are released at £40-£45 and over the life of the machine they drop to £30-£40 with some titles dropping via the platinum style range to around £20. Then the next new system is released with the price range of £40-£45 and so the cycle repeats. I can't see any reason for the latest games having a price hike beyond a few dollars.
