I havent seen it in action yet.
But I can say this for certain, I don't see all the hubub for SC2. I've played it, and wasn't orgasmofied (patent pending) by it like everyone else seems to be. |

I actually didnt like SC2 half as much as SC1, dont get me wrong, it was a fantastic game. Just IMO SC1 was the best fighter ever and in my eyes it would be extremely hard to top.
Anyway, I havent heard much info at all on Tekken 5. I didnt even think it was coming out for another half year or so :P. Anyone played it yet?

I'm going to pick it up soon. I love the series. And I hear this one has all the originals included in it. Tekken 1,2,3 are all in the game.

I have it. I'm only gonna say that it is absolutely the best fighting game ever. The game puts SC2 to shame, and shows DOA the door back to the shitty-and-no-depth land.
The game has the best graphics seen on the PS2. I would even go as far as saying it looks better than DOA. And I've yet to see it on a HDTV and WS. The strongest points of the series, them juggles are back, improved and the other games can only envy... If you people want more info, ax away, |

I'm no expert Tekken player... Capcom's Street Fighter games are really my forte. I did, however, go out and get Tekken 5 this weekend after stellar reviews from other colleagues.
Tekken 5 is a throwback to Tekken 3, which is a good thing. No more elevated levels... no more sidestepping (although some don't like the exclusion of these in this game)... and a triumphant return to brilliantly presented CG endings, which hearken back to Tekken 2 and Tekken 3. The visuals are sweet like cotton candy. Tons of detail here... with some interaction in the environment to boot. The fighters are well-animated, and thre frame rate never falters. The music is the best of the series to date... besting Tekken Tag Tournament (my former favorite). There's a fair amount of variety here, but TTT fans will notice some pleasing similarities in terms of style. (If anyone's asking, the Tekken 5 OST is on my birthday list for next month.) The big mini-game here is The Devil Within, which plays a lot like you'd expect a Tekken Force-style game to play. It's a slightly above-average diversion (much better than Death By Degrees, or so I've heard) and beating it is the only way to unlock one of the hidden characters in the game. Emulations of the first three Tekken arcade games are also available right out of the box, and there's a version of Starblade to be unlocked. (Starblade was a Namco rail shooter from the early 90s that also saw release on the Sega CD, 3DO, and PlayStation.) In fact, when you first insert Tekken 5 into the PS2, you can play the first level of Starblade while the main game loads up-- kinda like how you could play Galaga while waiting for Tekken or playing Galaxian while waiting for Ridge Racer on the PSX. The emulations are based on the coin-ops, so there are no minigames or unlockable characters... but there are arcade options (switch and color tests, arcade settings) to give you that arcade feel. This one's on our list of games to cover, folks. Late February and all of March are full of big releases, and we're attacking as many as we can. ![]()

Like the GameGuy said, this game goes back to Tekken 3 gameplay which in fact is big step forward since Tekken 3 was the best of the series prior to Tekke 5 of course.
The crazy juggles and strings from Tekken 3 are back. I find myself using Hwoarang and fighting in the air most of the time, just keep on connecting with any moves that I can. Man, it's back to the good old days. As for secret characters, I don't know, I haven't unlocked any. Just playing the Arcade mode and getting my rank up. ![]() The level with the castle and these white flowers is absolutely gorgeous. You just gotta see it to believe. ![]() |

Just to get this off my chest, after playing the game for a couple of hours...
Jinpachi Mishima is the cheapest final boss in a fighting game since M. Bison terrorized Street Fighter II in 1991. Aside from the fact that he sometimes can detect your moves and simultaneously block your attack AND stun your character, leaving him/her open to a mauling... - He's got a fireball attack than can connect for 75% damage... and he has the ability to throw two of these things in succession, effectively killing your character in two hits. - He's got a life-leeching move that replenishes his life bar a bit while decimating yours. - He's ridiculously strong and he's relentless... a bad combination. Here's one scenario that led me to a physical fit of blind rage that left a dent in my desk: Playing as Paul Phoenix, I managed to win the first round and had Jinpachi down to about 25% health in the second round. After losing the previous ten matches, it was finally time to move on... right? Wrong. Jinpachi proceeded to not let my get another hit in for the rest of the match, devastating me with the double-fireball attack in the second round, then countering every move I had in the third round and winning via Perfect. PETER... SMASH!!! This doesn't necessarily detract from Tekken 5's overall quality... but here's a friendly piece of advice: If you plan on unlocking all of the hidden characters via Story Mode, you damned well better practice with all of the characters available-- or else you're in for an extremely difficult task. Look for the official PSXE review very, very soon.
