Default Well once again Im freakin worried...

I bought the Japanese version of the PSP, and once again I'm hearing that NA games will not be region free, and I'm getting pissed off. I bought it cause I wanted it early and I bought knowing I would be able to play NA games on the Japanese verion, IGN.com has some type of US manual for the PSP and some one said that in the manaul it say's that the US games will not be region free and if that is true I will be F***ing pissed, I will also have to be forced to sell my Japanese PSP on Ebay. I would really like to keep the one I have. So if there is anyone out you know for a fact that games will be region free for sure please make me feel better.

um... the only reason you brought a PSP early is because it might be region free?

thats mad!

surely you also got it because of the games and the fact that a lot of great games may never get released in the States.. as well as it being region free?

if its not region free, then you will be able to sell it easy.. I wouldnt worry about that.

As has been the running concern since the Japanese version of PSP listed region coding on its game titles, the North American version again confirms that a region coding system is included onboard the PSP -- the NA version is Region 1, the Japanese version was Region 2. Sony Computer Entertainment has publicly stated multiple times that it intends to leave region coding disabled for gameplay use on PSP for international gaming and import play, but the feature is indeed there, and it can't be confirmed whether our imports will have been bought on good advise until we get some domestic games to test on our Japanese models. Messaged from the top on down from Sony have said that this is just a formality, but we're still eager to pick up a US game and try it to relieve our fears about incompatibility.
I think some people are confusing the fact that the PSP fully supports region coding/locking (definitely true) with the idea that region locking is actually enforced for games(sony says no).

We won't know 100% for sure until we actually try it for ourselves but sony has gone on record multiple times now saying it will work... not sure how much more they can say about it.

Could it be the same as with DVD's where it's up to the individual publishers to decide whether to release the games as specific regions or region 0?

I'm guessing the main reason for using region coding is so that you can't simply purchase the cheapest version of the games. You have to buy from your specific region.

Just a thought..

To be honest I will be quite suprised if we don't see some sort of modded bios that removes/disabled/bypasses region coding for the PSP, similar to what you can find now for DVD drives.
