EA makes deal with ESPN

Just because they acquired the ESPN brand does not mean they will be working with anyone from Visual Concepts. In fact, buying the ESPN brand is basically just the final nail in the coffin to prevent VC and Sega from being able to fight back, barring a miracle.

Hopefully, though, EA will hire some of the VC folks so their Madden series doesn't turn completely to crap like it was before Sega came out with the 2K series and forced EA to compete on an even field.

3 different licensee's for espn this gen

i thought it was sega that gave the espn license a touch of class anyway & not the other way around, imo sega is well rid of that baggage.

EA and its Sports department are being complete douches, though. They're buying out every franchise and label...

If their games were shitty before...with the lack of competition, they'll slack off and then everything will definitely get squishy from there. It's kind of sad and pathetic, really, that EA has to buy out nearly every sports franchise just so no one else makes money off of it.

Only one good thing could come of this:

Does that mean 989 can't make any more football or baseball or NHL or soccer games? Please tell me this is true, at least.

I don't know about sport games in the US but here in the UK they don't do very well without actual licences.

If it doesn't have official team and player names then people tend not to be interested.
