So far, the ONLY advantage that PSP has over the ps2 is that it's portable.

How do you know? You don't have one, so you can't say. It can display pictures, it can store MP3 files, you can put movies on a memory card, it can play games from the US and Japan, it can connect wirelessly, and over the internet for multi-player games, AND it's portable, which is the most important thing.
http://www.gearlive.com/index.php/ne...t_sonys_ps p/ Here's a good article for the non-believers. I'm not saying it's more powerful than a pS2 - that's stupid, but I think it's a better system, or at least has the potential to be. It does so much stuff well and the games look great, and I love being able to play for a few minutes in my room, a few at the airport, a few hours on the plane, and then I can play at the hotel. |

Lets see how the PsP does over time. I never buy something like that right off the bat. It will be much cheaper, have a lot more games, and the true reliability of it will be shown a year/two from today. Why hurry when we already have so many handheld options? Not to mention console options...

Because you have no handheld options like this. That's like someone saying "you know, I'm gonna hold off on a PS2 for two years, cause I'm pretty please with my N64. I don' t need GTA, Gran Turismo, Metal Gear, Burnout, Need For Speed, Madden, Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Ace Combat, Tekken, or any other sports games. Nope, I will stick with my N64."

Nah, Aaron, bad example. N64 sucked totally, imo. Actually, if its better than the ps2, or pc gaming, then yeah i would consider one. Im not into handhelds so there isnt any draw there, other than the rare Tetris games i play off and on nowadays. For the in-depth person that just has to have something the day it comes out, then im sure the PsP is right there to suck your money down the drain in a couple of sips. I can wait, and let others let me know what i am or am not missing. Money isnt even a factor, its simply saying "i dont need you". I wont be surprised if some rush out and buy it, will be happy to hear what they have to say. The handheld market is glutted now, when the GameBoy was the only system out there it was one thing, but now there are several, and unless you have a need for this system, why not wait? If Sony takes the approach Nintendois currently on, there will be a new system to replace the PsP within a year or two, so this is a large investment on something that will just be improved upon. Do i need to see DVD's on a portable handheld, or play mp3's? Sure dont, have that right where i need to see them, not walking down the street or riding in a car with others driving, i can wait long enough to get home...oh, i found another link to a much larger list of problems with the PsP. To say its smart to hold off on buying one immediately on release is an understatement:http://www.gamesarefun.com/news.php?newsid=4010
I even hear the battery length is really short before it has to be recharged. |

No, it's a perfect comparison. The DS is the N64 of handhelds. You want to compare the PSP to the GBA? Fine, that's like comparing a Super Nintendo to a PS2.
The handheld market glutted? There's are two systems, which for all intensive purposes are more like one. A new system in two years? Um...no. The PS2 isn't underpowered, nor is it lacking a common sense feature, like a backlight. You can wait, or never buy the thing - there's nothing wrong with that. But your reasons are what don't make any sense. |

From browsing three forums i commonly hang on there is very little positive feedback about the PsP. Im going to be interested in what you have to say about it, but obviously wont be getting one... And in anything where someone is really enthusiastic about it, i say right on, and lets see how it works out...

That's because you're reading the rants of jealous fanboys that don't have one. There has been almost 100% positive things said about it, outside the defects that have been reported. The system is incredible. Perhaps you should read the impressions of the sites that have the systems. My reports have been extremely positive, as have IGN's, and Gamespot's.
If you're not going to get one, that's cool, I know that some people don't dig handhelds. I really think that the PSP is going to change people's minds though. I was pretty burnt out on handhelds, but it has made me totally excited about playing games on the go now. I've got Lumines sitting here right now, and I want to wait until my flight tomorrow to play, but I know I'll crack. ![]() |

Aaron T, you a one big PSP fanboy. Look at your posts in all PSP related threads. :P
Ok, I don't have one. That doesn't mean I can't go on damn internet and find out everything I want about it. Yes, my ps2 can do much more than read MP3 and browse pictures. As a matter of fact, It can do things with my PS2, a PSP can't even dream of. I can play Japanese games too, and more. As far as movies go, I can get better exp watching them on a big TV and off a DVD in a DVD quality instead. So, in conclusion, as far as features go, PSP is [not even] a portable PS2. And now, I'm eagerly awaiting your reply. :P |
