They ride as few developers as they can hard as they can to push out products as quick as they can; it's a problem that's been voiced by EA employees themselves.
So, where will you turn? If you care about those lumps of textures having certain names and logos attached to them, then the answer is you go nowhere and become a victim of EA. If you care about playing a quality football game, you buy one that isn't based on the NFL franchise.
Remember, EA bought the NFL license, not the license to be the only developer making football games- you WILL have options.

I'll still end up buying Madden. Look at the NCAA Football games. Sega hasn't made an NCAA Football game since 2K3 (am I wrong here, because I can't find it online) and the only college football game I can find on the web is the NCAA Football 2004 or 2005. But their games aren't crap since they don't have competition. I mean, I can understand a slow down in the Madden series, but I've preferred EA over ESPN every time I try another one of their games. I'll end up buying them no matter what, and if they won't deliver, then I'll look somewhere else.
