Are you shitting me to say PC's are near there limits. Firstly 64-Bit CPU's have yet to be released and fully supported. We are still waiting on Longhorn. 16mb Buffers are coming out on new SATA HDD 250GB or higher. New video cards are released every single year.

There is no such word as limit in the pc world. 10 years from now we expect Terabytes to come into CPU's. And not too long from you'll start seeing 512mb Video Cards. Also DDR2 is being released as well as PCI Express and SATA.

No console will ever be able to keep up with the PC and i don't expect them to, as long as they have excellent games i'm good.

the thing with this 'Cell' is that the hype surrounding it will affect three companies.. not just Sony, so im willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

if you read the quote carefully.. they say "The three firms claim that the Cell chip will be up to 10 times more powerful than existing processors.
When put inside powerful computer servers, the Cell consortium expects it to be capable of handling 16 trillion floating point operations, or calculations, every second. "

its not setting the figures in stone, just telling you what they 'Think' it can do.

im in two camps at the mo, I think that it will possibly be the most powerful console out.. I only say that because from what I have read about the Xbox2.. M$ aren’t pushing the boundaries in terms of technology with the new console.. seems maybe M$ have learnt a few things over the last couple of years about producing and marketing a console.
The fact that they are not inc a HDD speaks volumes.. you could say that M$ want more money for an extra piece of equipment.. or you could say that M$ have realised that not everyone is online and that some people would rather not spend an extra $50 on a HDD of they don’t want one. The Xbox2 will be oh so powerful, that is obvious… either way the Xbox2 will sell better than the Xbox, im sure of it.

The PS2 has proved that you don’t have to have the greatest most powerful console to make money.. you need the guys behind the scenes making the games to a certain quality.

personally I think that even if the PS3 is as powerful as they are saying, we wont reap the benefits of that power for another three to four years in to the PS3's life.

im very excited about the PS3, and cant wait to get my hands on it, but im trying not to get too wrapped up in hype as things do go wrong and people do lie.

While it's extremely likely, it's far from being a fact.

I don't give a shit who's got the most powerful console. It obviously has never mattered, and it probably won't next time around (especially since the differences will probably grow smaller and smaller with every generation - that is until every one of us has an HDTV ).

its 90% fact that M$ wont put a HDD in. now if they had done this at the start of the Xbox's life then it would of gone down like a cup of cold sick. same as it did with the remote control.

no one said "but its for those people who wont use DVD's..."

so the fact that they are not going to put a HDD in the Xbox2 ..one could say that M$ have done their research and this is what they have come up with.

so no longer is it a power struggle for the best console, because each of the three console have their niche in the market and the next gen consoles will build on that.

so I totally agree with you sunny, its not a power thing any more, its pretty irrelevant. so the fact that we wont see anything like 16 trillion calculations per sec until way in to the PS3's life is neither here or there.

90% fact? Something is 100% fact or it's 0% fact.

But anyway. Microsoft has indeed said that they'd try to focus a bit more on the software this time around. I just hope they at least have some sort of flash memory for downloads and saves, while it's unlikely because memory card sales have a huge sales margin.

I don't know... I'll wait and see. I'm not hyped with any of the next-gen consoles because I'm still satisfied with the ones I currently have.

well i'm not sure if i believe the "focusing more on software" thing. considering rumors are saying there could be up to 3 different xbox systems

lets hope sony and micrsoft keep it at games and movies tops.

games are games.. its the people behind them that make them good not the console its played on.. tho it does help

Yeah well they're rumors. There's also rumors that the PS3 will use a highly unproved long-range distributed computing (with other Cells).

Rumors are just that. Rumors. That means you can't really take them seriously.
