Thumbs up Half Life 2

Well its finally here after a long wait! I spent the last 2 hours playing and I must say... I am amazed. I expected the physics to me great, which they are but just the ambience and the feel of the game is down right awsome.

I am suprised at how well it runs on my computer:
AMD athlon xp 2700
512 pc 2700 ram
ATI 9600xt(game came free with it)

It rarely lags up, but one time I was running on a roof and it lagged pretty bad. Well I found myself being hurled at the ground which ended up killing me.

So far my single complaint is the loading times. It takes awhile to load when you enter a building or a new area and it does it alot.

You start the game on a train. When you get off you have to go through a checkpoint. Well instead of doing it correctly I decided to pick up some bottles and break it over the guards heads. Well they busted out the happy sticks and started shocking me. I ran around for 5 minutes with them chasing me as I threw luggage and other misc items that were lying around, they ended up trapping me and shocking the complete shit outta me til they got bored and went back to their posts. I then went through.

I love this game! Its amazing and runs great. I was afraid it would lag badly because Counter-strike Source(CS on hl2 engine) runs terrible on my comp.

I got it free but I paid an extra $10 for Half-life source(very interesting) and Day of Defeat source which isnt out yet but I am highly anticipating. HL2 definately takes the hurt off of not having an X-box and Halo-2 :P

9.5 Presentation
The story unfolds in a near flawless fashion. It's weird that Gordon never speaks, but easily forgotten. You'll be hooked by the storytelling and drawn into the action naturally.

10.0 Graphics
Half-Life 2 has usurped DOOM 3's place as the best-looking game on the PC. It's astounding from both a technical and an artistic standpoint.

9.5 Sound
Once again, simply top notch work. Gunfire, the sounds of Combine vehicles, the alertness of guards, voice acting, and all else can't be faulted in any significant way.

9.5 Gameplay
A near flawless implementation of a first-person shooter. A mix of intelligent and frantic combat, puzzles, driving, and squad control creates great variation and paces the game perfectly.

9.0 Lasting Appeal
I want to play Half-Life 2 again and again. It's just that much fun. I do wish there had been more HL specific multiplayer, though.

9.7 OVERALL
Not bad.

I'm surprised this game is scoring below Halo 2.

Eww...****ing lame. I still don't understand why PC games haven't moved exclusively to DVD-rom. It blows my mind honestly. If PC games can evolve and leave old processors and video cards in the dust, why can't they abandon the CD-rom? What PC gamer doesn't have a modern computer with a DVD-rom drive? I'm baffled as to why they continue to release these gigantic games on CDs.
