ok, if all you're looking for is a dunk contest, then absolutely you should go with live. but if you're looking for an actual basketball sim with good gameplay, player control, etc- go with 2k5. i know it's cheaper but don't let that fool you. it's actually a lot more solid than live, in my opinion. espn clearly threw some love into this game. it's a damn good time and i've basically been playing it nonstop since sunday. the low price thing is just the incing on the cake- the game itself is very tight. save yer cash and grab this. then rent live if you're jonesin' for a dunk contest.

Couldn't agree with pgetchell any more. The last few years Sega has been way ahead of EA in terms of basketball games. The Dunk contest will probably be a resonably cool gimmick and fun for awhile, but I doubt it will make up for the weaker game play. ESPN is way cheaper AND is the better game, what's not to like?

ESPN NBA 2K5 has always been far surpassed Live games.
Everyone knows that. The battle is between Madden and ESPN NFL. As for NBA games, without a doubt ESPN.

lucky for me im not into football, so i don't have to decide between madden and espn. but when it comes to basketball, that one's a mortal lock- espn. i've played live and while it's okay, 2k5 is just a better game. plays better, looks better and has a better price. add that all up and it pretty much makes 2k5 a no brainer for me.

man, good advice. on friday morning i went down to eb and picked up what seemed to be their last new copy of 2k5, but i could be mistaken. this game is phenomenal.
the 24/7 mode is awesome and it's so much fun. and although i know its a just game, it looks so "realistic". i'm really happy with this one.

2K5 by far, Live isn't even close.
