Default It's stupid articles like this that fuel Xbots and Nintendorks. DIE BLOOMBERG!

Sony to Introduce PlayStation 3 in 2003, Commercial Times Says.

http://quote.bloomberg.com/fgcgi.cgi...vUaBVqU29ueSB0

Tokyo, March 10 (Bloomberg) -- Sony Corp., the world's second- largest consumer-electronics maker, will introduce the PlayStation 3 video-game console this year, two years ahead of schedule, to widen its lead over rivals, the Commercial Times said, citing unidentified people at Taiwanese parts suppliers.

Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. of Taiwan, which assembles the PlayStation 2 for Sony, and other parts suppliers on the island will start trial production next month, the report said.

Sony may start selling the PlayStation 3 in Japan as early as midyear and overseas by the end of the year, the report said. The PlayStation 3 will use an unidentified processor different from the PlayStation 2 chip, which is made by Toshiba Corp., the report said. Calls to the public relations department of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., Sony's game unit, were not answered.

Tokyo-based Sony, in collaboration with International Business Machines Corp. and Toshiba, is developing a new processor capable of handling sophisticated graphics and sound over the Internet. The chip, called ``Cell,'' is still in development, Molly Smith, a spokeswoman with Sony Computer Entertainment America, said on March 4.

I'm totally surprised that Bloomberg did that. I can remember Xbox fans would complain that they said nothing but negative things about there system and how they liked Sony....intersting.

PS3 will not be out in 2003. Sony does not have to rush the release because they're dominating the console industry.

if the ps3 does come out in 2003 then im going to get it and when i do i am going to get every final fantasy game that will be brought out for it because i love final fantasys

but i still dont think that they will bring it out in 2003 because they are still selling ps2s and loads of them so i think that they should bring it out in 2004

One thing that I think that article does almost concede, IMO, is that we WILL see info about the PS3 at E3 this year. While I don't think that we'll actually see the PS3 in retail stores this year (where the hell are the games?), I think that Sony is actually farther along in the development cycle than people think and it's obvious that Sony wants be first out of the gate again to maintain its market share advantage.

If my theory is correct, this business about Nintendo dominating E3 this year could change in a hurry.

Nintendo has never dominated E3. Not last year. Not the year before. Sony has always managed to one-up Nintendo.

I, for one, won't buy a PS3 if it comes out this year or even next year. It's too soon to be buying another console when the current one has yet to live up to it's promised capablities (ie. just now getting online play, no announcement on HDD for US and EU). I bought the PS2 on the day of release and enjoyed owning it but quickly found the problems in a having a rushed console. The laser problems and general component problems (fans, power supplys, controller slots) have proven that Sony pushed the console out to simply beat MS and GC and didn't care about the end user.

I won't fall for the same Sony tactic again just because it's supposed to be bigger and better. I'll at least wait a year after release before I invest in a PS3.

I'll abandon PSX Extreme if Sony pulls something as ****ing stupid as that. But the chances of that happening are ZERO. Sony has, hands down, the smartest marketing reps in the industry.
