Unhappy Poor Raiden

Why is Raiden from MGS2 always getting picked on as the "gayest character" in video games? Granted, his cartwheel was a little gay compared to Snakes semi-badass roll/spear, and he wasn't baaaaaaaaaaaadass like Snake was, and he sure did whine a lot, and he has the same name as my least favorite Mortal Kombat character, BUT he was an important part in one of the most awe-inspiring stories I've ever encountered (even if it did take off of George Orwell's 1984 a little bit). If a character can be played that well, and have such great character development, how can people hate him so much? This has bothered me since November 2001, so I'm glad I joined this forum.

Frankly, people felt threatened that they weren't playing as SolidSnake throughout the whole game, so they made Raiden sound like a fag. He wasn't the least bit whiny, not as far as I'm concerned. Raiden was pretty cool, and his cart-wheel was the shit!

I played it at my friend's house and the only parts I liked of that game were with snake....once it got to raiden I was happy I didn't blow money on the game.

Its not that I didn't like raiden....but i was a huge fan off metal gear solid for psx and mostly because I thought snake was the coolest...he was the main reason I liked it....then this comes out and you play with him for a short time....it disappointed me.

I thought it was fine playing as a character other than snake. After all, he plays exactly the same. I remember Hideo saying that he made this decision so players would get the chance to see snake more from a different perspective. I think it worked wonderfully. People just say he's gay because they don't really like him that much. I didn't think he was all that cool. But keep in mind that he's always being directly compared to snake, and very few characters can even begin to compete with him.

The only thing i didnt like about raiden was they way he held a handgun to his chest and he ran. But that can be blamed on his suit i think. It made him a hunch-back =/

Im satisfied with raiden in MGS2, because I think if he didn't exist , then i think the story will be screwed up, playin em as a character is nice, I thought it was dumb in the beginnin, but then i got used to it, hey.. what you got to waste, play em, he might be in MGS3 as well.

I think Raiden was a fine idea. Mainly because I did enjoy watching Snake work from a different point of view. It really made you savor those moments you had with him, and you got to kick ass right along side of him. I don't know, I'm odd like that. I'd rather be the main character's best pal, than the character himself.
