Whoa, no random battles? Now that's MY type of RPG. Now I just need to find the cash to pick this one up.....

Yeah, it's quite similar to CC (which should come as no surprise, since the makers of XS are some of the makers of CC)... There's some sneaking around involved too, and you can blow obstacles up to avoid fighting.

It's quite fun.

The battle system is really deep and there is a lot of stuff to keep track of. Different attacks (square, triangle or circle) are effective for different enemies. You can string these together as combos depending on how many action points you have. If you guard or only attack once in a turn (each attack takes 2 AP), you can fill up your AP gauage (max is 6AP so far) and unleash some serious damage!!

Your position on the battlefield is important. Sometimes, they even knock you into the back row so you can't attack effectively (range plays a role in who you can attack) Luckily, this can be countered by setting up your formation so that one character is behind you (usually a healer).

There are also many techs, skills and attack combinaitons which you can set and upgrade with tech points that you earn in battle. You also have to upgrade your AGWS (mech) just like in Xenogears. All I can say is that it's fun and strategic. Seeing the enemies beforehand is a also a big bonus (I am really getting fed up with random battles )

Umm, what else about battles? Yeah, there's a boost meter that increases during the battle. It lets you speed up and cut in front of others (in terms of your turn in the battle). Enemies can boost as well!! The boss battles are pretty intense due to this

Once again, I don't think anyone who enjoyed FFX can go wrong with this game...

Well, I'm getting my copy of Xenosaga after I buy a few of last years PS2 games like Wild Arms 3, DDR Max, Ace Combat 4, and Kingdom Hearts. I really want to play this game now. I may check Blockbuster for the game next week although I doubt they'll get it in.

Barret, did you not hear us talk about kingdom hearts? You may want to avoid it. Yeah it has square characters in it but it's an ok game.

I did play Kingdom Hearts before but this is what I have to say about it. I didn't get too into the game because I rented it at a time I was loaded with work to do, so I was stuck at the beginning. I want to give the game a retry because I know that I would like it. I enjoyed the combat a lot and I like almost anything by Squaresoft unless it's Saga Frontier 1 or 2. I like Dual Hearts a lot and I know it's similar to Kingdom Hearts. I don't plan to get Kingdom Hearts until the price drops though.

I've played between 80-100 RPG games and this is what I have to say. I love random battles and cutscenes. I like the ATB the best, then I like turn based. Real time combat is my least favorite although I still buy those type of games. I rather have a world map with several towns than a very straight forward RPG game. The battle music is a very important aspect for me in an RPG game along with the story. I will normally like just about any RPG game as long as I can play it and doesn't have extrememly repitative dungeons like Evolution on DC. By the sound of things, I should like Xenosaga Episode 1.

I'll be able to buy all the games I want very easily. I'm behind on my collection because I went a long time without buying a new PS2 game.

If I do see Xenosaga in sale in Sunday's Ads, I will buy it right now.

I personaly loved Kindom Hearts. Sure it has Disney characters, but is that really such a bad thing? I think the combination of FF and Disney worked perfectly. It brought back a lot of old memories from when I was younger. I have a friend who kept saying how lame the game would be because of the same reasons. I let him borrow it and he was hooked. The same thing happened with another friend of mine when he saw the secret boss battle with Sepheroth. After that he gave it a try too and loved it. All I'm saying is that nobody out there sould simply dismiss it because it looks too childish. Rent it or borrow it and give it a fair and honest chance. You may just find a great game that you otherwise would have been missing. You should already know that there must be something good about it or it wouldn't be on so many games of the year lists in gaming magazines and sites.

It's not the fact that it has Disney characters that drags KH. In fact, it's the only appeal it had to me (counting the production values).

I had fun with the game until Agrabah, and afterwards I realized that the level design was just godaweful and that combat-wise, all you did was the exact samet thing over and over again, with small variations of the same ennemies. I got bored, and never picked it up again... until I took it back to EB. The trade-in value's up there.
