You're only paying $50 for the HDD. The HDD itself will retail for $50 after the FFXI pack in is finished. For $100 the HDD is pretty worth it.

for you. Ok.

I'm not saying it's a bad deal or anything, especially since you get a much larger HDD than the Xbox (8-10 gigs), which opens up some possibilities. But the Xbox remains cheaper for the rest of the population.

Something I've been wondering, however, is if you at least be able to save your games on it? I'm concsious that it could bring some technical problems for games that don't use the device (like most of them), since they were not programmed to do it, but it would be an interesting feature for upcoming games.

I think Duane said earlier you have to go to the browser and then you can load everything from your mem card to the hard drive, kind of like how you can use the ps2 card for backup of your ps1 saves, you just end up copying everything over everytime you want to use it. The games don't directly save to the hard drive. Sounds like a pain in the ass to do, I know I don't do it for my ps1 saves, it's easier to just buy multiple cards. Also, unlike the xbox, most games on ps2 are not going to be designed with this in use, so I wouldn't expect faster loading times or anything on very many games.
