Ah, 1996. The year of many great gaming things for me.
I played my first RPG Final Fantasy game in 1996: FFIII on the SNES (FFVI). I was looking for a game to reant at Block Buster and I heard how great FFIII was, so I decided to rent it. Tha game blew me away from the start! Sweet SNES visuals and a highly intiguing story were both well intact. Later that year I scored a copy of the NES Final Fantasy. I was so happy. I also played Illusion of Gaia that year which I really enjoyed. Since I didn't have Super Mario RPG yet and it was all the rave, Im played it instead. I turned 15 that year and for my Birthday, I got Super Mario RPG and Secret of Mana. Oh how I loved both games. One of my good gaming buddies helped me tackle Secret of Mana from start to finish. It was an amazing experience. The music from Secret of Mana still plays in my head. Nintendo 64. Everyone I know wanted one. The released date was September 29th. I got a call from Toys 'R Us saying they had their shipments in and I could pick mine up. Oh happy day! Didn't have the cash for games so we rented Super Maio 64 SM64=Platform gaming bliss. Those are some of the higher points in 1996 gaming from me.

In 1996 I made fun of people like you. I mean, the occasional game of Mario at a friend's house was one thing, but sitting in front of a TV for hours on end, leveling up and doing "side quests"? Come on, you bunch of jag-offs! Games were for kids!
It wasn't until 1998, when I got hooked on Tekken 3 and Goldeneye, that I admitted that I played games and liked them. It wasn't until 2000, after playing Ocarina of Time, that I became a "gamer". After realizing what games had to offer (and yes, it took arguably the best game ever to open my moronic eyes), I quickly became hooked, and soon found a way of combining my love of games with my love of writing. It wasn't long before I worked my way up through a few fan sites to PSXE, quite possibly the coolest damn gaming site on the net (because we keep it real; we write for the gamer, not the dollar). Therefore, my memories of 1996 include Super Mario World, and that's it for gaming. Other than that, it was all about baseball and "ladies". |

I can honestly say that I have been a gamer since the first time i laid my eyes on Space Invaders.....and that was when i was 4. I'm 22 now...and i'm just more and more into games.
eventually i predict i will be designing games in some way...hopefully i'll be an art director or character designer....
