After playing F-Zero GX, I'm reminded what its like to have a good challenge in my game. I know a lot of gamers have complainedthat the game is too hard *cough EGM cough* but that's one of the reasons I really like GX. On a whole, games are a lot easier than they were in the 8-bit and 16-bit days. Perhaps the reason for this is because gaming has become so mainstream and casual gamers are a large portion of the gaming population. Whatever the reason, I'm glad I can still play a game that offers a good challenge. Even VF4: Evo with it's human AI fighters provides a good difficulty. I know this is an age old issue, but what do you think about it?

I love it. Trial error kind of challenge is something I like for some reason. I guess it's because everytime I lose...I just know there's a hole I can get through and complete the objective. I can feel it. The Getaway and Splinter Cell had tons of trial and error involved, and I loved both.
A lack of challenge is one reason why DMC2 was such a poorly received game. ![]() |

I do like a challenge but when I've tried to beat a level several times and I still lose, I get annoyed and bored then turn it off completely

wanna challenge?.. piranah class on Wipeout... mad as fuk.
Indy is proving to be challenging, but in a good way.. the AI is getting me every time, reminds me of Half Life. THPS4.. that was challenging... hard as nails some of the stuff... I think though, that theres a fine line between challenging and too hard..

Yeah baby! Challenge was made for me in videogames, I finish Devil May Cry on "Dante must die" mode, Mega MAn X on Snes, wish everybody knows that this game is very very hard, Syphon Filter 2 on "Hard" mode. But I don't like RPG games, those game weren't made for me like FF.
There's only on Damn game that gave problem to, it's a damn good challenge for sure, Max Payne, yeah! this game is hard even on "easy" mode. . Anyway my day will come ![]()

I like challenges, as long as the controls in the game aren't what's providing the challenge.
If it's a challenge such as trying to get first place in a race (I just played the final 'mission' in the Tokyo level of Test Drive Last night), then that's pretty cool. If the challenge is wandering around a level trying to figure out what secret wall you didn't press on to reveal the switch you need to flip in order to open the last door so you can leave the level... well, that's not so cool:idiot: I haven't played the games, but Splinter Cell and the Getaway sound like they'd be my kind of games (my style of challenge). However, as I stated before, in some other thread, I really don't get any big thrill out of Boss fights in games. Especially in games like MGS and Syphon Filter, which are trying to be realistic. Boss fights belong in games like Crash Bandicoot. That's a little off topic, but not really (it fits into the 'challenge' issue). edit: Another example: GTA 3 & VC. The main game/side missions were good challenges (in spite of poor targeting and character control at times), but the extra crap needed for 100 % completion (I'm thinking of the target practice in VC here, as well as others) is not my cup of tea. I do tend to get bored/turned off by that kind of stuff.

Don't you even dare try telling me that the Phycho Mantis fight or any other boss fight in MGS was pointless or stupid
