Default Disgaea: Hour of Darkness...wha tha...??

what is this?

ok.. I know its an RPG.. but is it any good?

im just doing my monthly import spending spree.. and I came across this Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, the avg scores are around 9.2.. but is it as good as Dark Cloud 2?

DC2 is coming out next week, here in good old Blighty so I was going to wait. But even tho the graphics suck on this Disgaea, and the sound is a bit pants.. the gameplay and lastibility goes through the roof in the reviews..

so.. has anyone played it?

I just called my EB and they were out of it... They should give me a call when they get their new shipments.

I really don't have time or money for another RPG right now, but given that I absolutely don't want to pay $80 for it on ebay when I will get the time, I'm still buying it right away.

And who knows, if it's good I'll probably end up playing it anyway.

lol....

its bizarre, cause I haven't read anything about it.. but on Gamefaq's there's about 16 reviews... all are either 10/10 or 9/10 only one is 8/10. at IGN they give it 9.2 like NxtGen...

they all say graphics are crap.. almost PS1, sound is a lil bland.. but bang on about how utterly brilliant it is!

lasting appeal and Gameplay quotes from IGN:
"Is there anything in Hour of Darkness that you can't do? Multiple endings, 10,000 levels, 120 character classes, 13 episodes, the Item World, and customisation out the wazoo is only the beginning. "

"The premise is simple, but its execution is a lesson in how to do strategy/RPGs correctly. Combat systems, level progression, and the various mini-games hit all the right notes. Simply awesome. "

sounds pretty hardcore... me thinks I will be purchasing.. but maybe after Ka2 and Metal Slug 3...

nice to have a game that's so amazing that hype hasn't had a chance to ruin its reputation before it comes out! like Ico.. what a sleeper.. what a game.

Hope Ico 2 doesn't suffer from the hype mongrels....

This is a game that I really want to buy. I've been wanting an old school looking RPG game for the longest time and I finally get my wish. I love Atlus translation and I'm glad they kept the Japanese voices like they did with Sky Gunner. I'm hoping to buy the game as soon as possible but I also want Soul Caliber II for GC.

What Ultimately sold me on the game is its corny humor... They translated certain lines using internet lingo, such as "d00d" or "fgt".

Disgaea was a surprise hit in Japan so they released it in NA in extremely limited quantities. I managed to get a copy and it kicks ass.

FOr those who don't know it is a Tactics Style RPG along the lines of FFt. Howevre, it is much lighter in heart, stroy, humour, etc. It is also much quicker paced during battles due to attack combos, group attacks, and special geo-panels with their own brand of "colour combos."

The depth in the game is amazing, since you have to battle to do anything and everything. For example, you have to power up your own items and weapons, by going to the item world and battling the demons that live inside them. There are also "good" demoins that let you increase stats in your items and you can combine them, export them to other items, etc...all to power up your stuff.

There is also a sort of Job system and a "demon" senate you must use in order to get new jobs, powers, store items, new ranks, etc.

Disgaea is one sweet-ass game and you should buy it on the spot shoudl you see it.

They are BOTH worth getting, but I wouldn't buy them both at once. Since Disagaea is so rare, buy it first. I'm willing to bet that Dark Cloud 2 will eventually be rereleased as a GH title anyway, like the original.

DC2 and Disgaea are both completely different games and BOTH offer a good 40+ hours of gameplay or more. Depending on how much you like to master a game.

Disgaea plays very similar to Final Fantasy Tactics and other "tactics" style games. Dark CLoud 2 plays more like a Zelda game with battles being real-time action.

I guess it depends on what genre you prefer. But both games offer many hours of fun and are fairly deep for those who want to dig deep into the games.
