I'm glad that Sony is sticking with that format in their consoles. Even though I hardly play any PS1 games anymore, I will most definitely play some of the high calibre PS2 games that are out there when the PS3 comes out. Your thoughts?

You can always count on Sony for doing smart ideas. What would make it even cooler if it were also backwards compatible with PSP UMD's. But this decision Sony is making I stand behind 110%

Hmm...
sticking with the CD/DVD format, how are they going to increase the amount of data on the media? They will almost certainly need more memory for the increased graphics, won't they? I think I read something about new layering technology for DVDs (or maybe it had something to do with a blue lazer or something - I'm pretty sure it was in Popular Science a month or two ago), but I wonder if that will really be enough. Seems like it might actually limit what the PS3 would be capable of, in terms of the software being limited by storage (and therefore not utilizing the processing power of the hardware). I suppose they've got it under control, though, huh? :P

I'm sure they'll be just fine, when was the last time you saw a double-disc PS2 game?
Anywho, I'm not surprised the leastest bit..

An interesting point (for me, at least) that was raised in relation to this is that Microsoft are more than likely going to want their new console to be backwards compatible too, but with ATI working on their new console instead of nVIDIA it may not be possible to do so without some major glitches in the emulation. With the PS3 functioning as a brand new console AND two classic consoles (both of which have a huge library of great cheap titles) Sony have already got off to a good start. If they throw in a few other multimedia features too then Microsoft and Nintendo are really going to have their work cut out come 2005/6...

Nobody complained about the multi-disc PS games so I don't think there'll be any problems if some PS3 games have to be multi-DVD.
