ok...why is the playstation called "PSX"?...i mean wats the x for?...is it there for a reason? i mean...its called a playstation...wats with the X?

i dont think it stands for anything. its just the nickname for the system.

I'm not sure, but I think it is there to discern the psx with the original Playstation (the snes CD-Rom add-on).

I'm guessing that the x is a variable standing for any PS. It will have more signifigance over the years as PS3 and PS4 and so on and so forth are released.

from what I know ... the PSX was a slang term for the PS1, and was never used officially by Sony. from where it started I have no idea.. probably magazines and word of mouth seeing as the Internet wasnt really about back then.
I like the name, and obviously Sony do seeing as the new console will be called PSX... maybe someone should ask Sony what the 'X' stands... they should know now. maybe as in 'Extra'? cause its coming with a DVD writer and HDD and stuff.. maybe? what the original use of the 'X'.. probably because it was cool back then to say 'X' on the end of things...

PSX, back in the day, stood for "Playstation Experimental". I read that in a past Gamepro mag. I could be wrong, but I don't think so.
