My Final Fantasy XI journal.

My first MMORPG, so at first I was pretty dumb founded with everything. Now, I have it all figured out. I have my controls configured so that W, S, A and D are for movement, and the arrows are for camera panning. Anyways, I started light. I did two jobs for some gil and a shield. I did some courrier work for a nice little shield. And handed out some flyers for some gil from the magic shop. (I think it was gil). Anyways, after that, I was walking around and asked somebody for the way out. He told me to follow him, which was nice of him and I made my way out of the castle. So here I am, outside, looking for some fights. I start killing a few rabbits and worms. Eventually, I just ask somebody if I could follow him around, and so we form a party. We fight together for about 30 minutes or so and then he had to leave.

After that, I went back East towards the castle entrance and began to heal. As I was doing that, someone else came up to me and asked if I wanted to join him. So we formed a party, we kicked some ass for a little while, and then a third member came up to us and asked us if we needed a black mage. So we took him in, and kicked some ass. My weapon level went up, and I'm at level 3 right now. We fought some beetles, rabbits, bats, worms, and an orc. I can't believe I spent nearly 3 and a half hours playing an MMORPG. I never thought this would happen to me.

Hmm... A good story eh?

Oh! I encountered someone by the fishing guild, which I recently joined in Windurst. His name was Kuro, he said that he was trying to get his skill up and that he bought a 4000 gil rod and it broke. I looked at his level, and he was level 9, only 2 higher than me. I asked how he got so much money, and he said that he used to have a level 20 warrior, but he sold all his high level stuff and made a new character. I asked how much money he had, and he said 30K. I laughed and told him my balance, of 292. He gave me 3K gil then, I thanked him very much and added him to my buddy list.

So can any of you guys with the beta tell us unlucky fools out here what the battle system is like? I have played a MMORPG before (everquest) and if the battle system is like that I will be extremely let down.

Damnit I want my beta kit! I signed up for the ps2 beta at the square site and at the gamers advisory panel and I still haven't got anything. Did anyone get the ps2 version?

Dan: How do you add people to a buddy list?

Also, the battle system is self-explanatory. Once you play the game, it just kind of falls into your lap. Don't know how to explain it. It's easy.

Well I got my Beta. They 1 day shipped it to me. Which was odd being as most companies dont give a rats ass about the beta tester =D

Well I put a few hours in. Got to lvl 4 Dark Mage(I think).

The Starting video was pretty badass.

The graphics were set really low, they sucked before i turned them up. They were decent when set high.

I really dont feel like im in the Final Fantasy universe as much as just another mmorpg. Battle system is the same as every other mmorpg from SWG to Shadowbane to DAoC
Nothing new yet, but I have yet to see the high or mid and even alot of low lvl gameplay. The higher you go the more you get emerced into universe and the point of the game in MMORPG's, so I will wait it out.

I am having fun smiting bunnies and stray sheep though.
