I'm renting Galerians: Ash right now and I happen to think the game is pretty good. I know that graphics aren't very good but I love the story, CG cinemas, and Action RPG style gameplay. I never played the first Galerians on PSX though. I'll give more impressions of Galerians: Ash when I play it more.
So far, I'm definately buying it sometime.
