
it's a bit more complicated than simply saying "okay we have a cap now, live with it". Most owners would love it but the Baseball Players Union (which may be the strongest Union of ANY kind in the country) would go on strike in a second if that happened. There is a reason that MLB has never had a cap and it's not because the thought simply hadn't occured to them. Also, there are plenty of teams that spend a lot of money and many of them don't do well at all (look at the Mets, Rangers, and Dodgers...). Teams like the Yankees and the Red Sox spend there money on quality players and wind up with good teams most years. Plus teams like Minnesota, Oakland, and Florida have proven in recent years that you DON'T have to spend a ton of money to win if you spend your money wisely.
