As I've stated, I really don't care about installs, although I definately believe it should be optional. I find it hard to believe that while there plenty of games that don't require installs and work fine, some are mandatory.
Personally, since I own both the PS3 and 360, for me it comes down to a matter of stability vs online functions. I've made a point that any multiplatform offline games I'm getting on the PS3 without question. That leaves multiplayer games to the 360, which has imo, a superior online setup, and face it... LIVE! although it costs $50USD/year it's alot better than Sony's PSN. There's more updates on LIVE!, more going on... PSN, you wait till Thursday and hope against the odds that maybe you'll get the same extras the 360 received.
Which brings me to GTA4, should I decide to buy the game, which I still am not sure about. The DLC means nothing to me. The install means absolutely nothing to me. What does matter to me is, am I playing offline or online, and am I playing on a system that is known for stability or a system known for being the worst built system in history? I have 3 friends on my PSN list... All 3 are from Final Fantasy XI. One of them is a 360 fanboy from the UK whom by the sheer luck of whatever, I convinced him to get a PS3. He still has no games for it. On the other side, LIVE! I have 18 people on my list, 6 of them are from Final Fantasy XI (one of them mentioned above)... The other 12 I met playing Halo 3. I'm pretty sure MOST of them will be playing GTAIV. I'm leaning in the 360 direction for that reason. I know more people on LIVE!, and it's just better for meeting random people to have on the list. PS3 feel more like a special kids club online.
Microsoft PRs shouldn't be poking at Sony for it's 5 minute install, they should be poking at Sony for it's unfunctional lack of features crappy online network. Now further hindered by the roflmao-delay of HOME, which keeps Sony on the back burner for their online features. Honestly, the moment they finally put that out, I seriously feel LIVE! will be shaking in it's boots. Microsoft should also be poking at Sony lack of ingame XMB. Custom soundtracks? Ability to access friendlist, messages, etc.
If I were Gates, I'd personally fire the guy myself just so he knew what huge mistake that was to go to the public with such a low grade blow and so little impact behind it.
So again, as somebody who owns both, that install is unimportant. Nor is the DLC for that matter, although for many it will play a very big role I'm sure. People want content, the 360 has more and seems it always will as things stand. Microsoft employees are probably drinking Starbucks on the way to work, Sony is... Well... Their triple shot mocha no whip latte is currently delayed.
