I really don't mind advertising in game. If it's done tastefully and made to be part of the environment, it's ok. For example in Rainbow Six and Splinter Cell you'll find some Assassins Creed posters up on the walls, or billboards, etc. What I hate is when they advertise using things you actually interact with, as it forces you to glorify that company because it's your tool.
I figure if it's passive advertising and it's done tastefully and they haven't sold out so badly to have a billboard for Newport Cigarettes, I'm fine with it. Games that have advertising all over the place so you can't escape it, or make you use something branded (unless of course in such genres as racing or sports) is overboard. Still I don't want to be driving around and having to pickup TEXACO ENERGY BOOST PICKUPS!!!!!1!1! in a driving game, as related as it is.
