they will probably use either the Cod3 of 4 game engine, so it will be easier for them to bang out a copy of Cod5. people had or should i say have high hopes for Cod5.. i dont.
i think its a silly thing and that WW2 has been done to death... if the games good and you can create atmosphere then why not do WW1?? or a future war.. if they dont want to do modern times war.
But Cod4 just shows how popular it is and how many people are sick of WW2 games. the reason why the demonware servers keep going down is the amount of users and activity online that they have to deal with, they just cant cope.
IW and Activision have been quoted in saying that they were taken back by how many people were playing at one time on all three formats (and no i am not inc the DS version here. lol), they just didnt think so many people would of brought it. but they shouldnt be that shocked, its a class game.
im happy to blame IW for this, but i believe the servers are Activisions.. so its them who we should be blaming. i did write to them with a problem of my own, and they just said they wernt reading emails anymore wtf?!
my point is this... if the servers cant cope and things just arent right (ps3/PC and 360 alike), and Cod5 will be WW2.... i could place money on the fact that Cod4 will be increasingly popular until something major comes out. in the same genre.
the answer here is quite simple, they need to upgrade their servers. because when Cod5 comes out (ww2).. everyone will still be playing Cod4...
that is unless Op Flashpoint, Battlefield BC and Frontlines are any good
not forgetting RFOM2 and the mighty Killzone.
though it does seem like the genre is saturated somewhat, but as Soldier of fortune 3 showed us, that a game can seem brilliant in previews and screen shots, only to be a pile of steaming brown turd in reality... so Cod4 could still be as popular next year as it is today, if not more so.
