Gabe Newell is one of the founders of Valve, so you'd have to take things like being involved in several of the greatest FPS titles of all time and the creation of the successful Steam digital delivery platform into account when assessing any 'clout' he may have.

Obviously though he's primarily a PC developer, so with the 360 being very PC-friendly and the PS3 operating it's own fairly complicated hardware it's only logical to find the PS3 hard to get to grips with. It's why a lot of PC developers use the 360 for their forays into the console market. His point seems to be that the PS3 requires you to relearn how to do things because of the nature of the Cell, whereas the 360 allows PC developers to take the knowledge they have and implement it well without much fuss. From the point of view of a PS3 developer it's interesting and full of potential, but for a PC developer it's a great big headache.
