I actually pulled that thing out of storage, cleaned it up, dropped $400 into repairs/maintenance, and sold it. It'd been sitting in an unheated shop at my dad's farm for the past 8 years - last licensed in 1999.

I sold it for $425 more than I paid for it back in 1995 (not accounting for inflation, just dollars to dollars). So I'm happy enough.

Camera shipped today - can't wait.

BTW, I've been shooting a Canon EOS Elan 7 with a Tamron 28-300mm lens for the past five years or so. It's a really nice camera (and I love the lens, even thought it's a little dark and a lot heavy), but I'm excited to make the switch from film to digital. I'll save about $250-$300 per year in film/developing costs. On top of that, I'll be able to shoot a gob more pictures.

WRT the new setup, I'm actually almost as excited about the new lens as the new camera. It'll zoom out to the equivalent of approximately 3x more than my current lens (14x vs 11x on the old one), it's about 1/2-inch shorter, and it weighs about 5 1/2 ounces less! The only downer is that it doesn't have image stabilization ("vibration compensation," in Tamron-speak). Tamron just came out with VC on one of their standard lenses designed for film SLRs, so it'll eventually make its way to the lenses desiged for DSLRs. Oh well...
